Summary[]
Frank Underhill, Henry MacFarland, Jarrett Coombs, and Edward Mason are contacted by private investigator Roland Cummings, requesting their help in return for Roland providing each of them with something that they desire. After encountering proof of the otherworldly and executing a would-be ghoul, Roland asks the four men to help him investigate the disappearance of a young girl, and leads them her last known location. When Roland is unexpectedly killed, the remaining investigators take it upon themselves to find Roland's kidnapped daughter and follow in the footsteps of the long-missing Anna Stanczyk, uncovering evidence of sinister forces and cult activity as they do so, even as they grapple with their own personal demons.
As they retrace Anna's flight from her home and her research into the entity haunting her, they learn about the Three Soldiers and the entity that one of their number attempted to summon, and they discover that the cult of Shub-Niggurath still exists and means to finish the ritual started long ago. Thrown into the Dreamlands by the cult leader to prevent them from interfering with the ritual, they are forced to face their own demons in order to escape, while being given the final pieces of the puzzle by spirits inhabiting the Dreamlands with the intent of stopping Shub-Niggurath once and for all.

| Frank Underhill, Henry MacFarland, Jarrett Coombs, and Edward Mason are contacted by private investigator Roland Cummings, requesting their presence at a magic show. In return for their cooperation, Roland promises to help Frank discover his wife's murderer, repay Henry's gambling debts, answer Jarrett's occult questions, to give Edward a purpose. The four men discover the magician and his ghoul wife had been eating human "volunteers". Henry executes the magician in the woods with a shotgun and Roland requests help finding a missing girl. | |||

| They arrive at the girl's last known location: an abandoned mansion. They discover the girl's parents' remains, a typewriter partially made from a crow, and a diary, leading them to an old church. Roland reveals his own daughter was kidnapped, and will be returned if he can find this missing girl. The investigators discover the grave of Neitsh Walden, one of the Three Soldiers, and Edward abruptly attacks and kills Roland. The remaining investigators successfully take Edward down. | |||

| Attempting to return to Arkham, a storm waylays the remaining investigators. They encounter the distraught owner of the bed and breakfast (Emilia Webb) that they'd stayed in the night before on the road. Stopping at a diner as the storm rages, they see a creature made of fog incinerate a man attempting to leave, and discover that this creature came from the bed and breakfast, as Emilia tells them that it killed her grandfather. They return to the bed and breakfast in hopes of finding out more about the creature and how to stop it. | |||

| Frank rigs up a trap. Henry uses himself as bait to lure the creature into the basement. With the creature dead, they depart Orchard's Run to return to Arkham and save Roland's daughter. They investigate Roland's office, finding his home address and a lighter. A ransom note indicates a cult was involved and Roland was instructed to recruit them. At Roland's home, they discover his dead wife and files on each of them (except Henry's file, which is missing). Reading Jarrett's file, Frank and Henry learn that he'd once watched a woman die and did nothing to help her. | |||

| They discover Roland has leverage on each of them (Henry's gambling debts, Frank's affair, Jarrett's curiosity) except Edward. The investigators decide to learn more about his potential link to the cult. They eventually discover where he originally hid Roland's daughter and find the words "The Three Soldiers". At the Miskatonic University Library, they ask Dr. Armitage about The Three Soldiers, but a more helpful book is in the possession of the first missing girl: Anna Stanczyk. Ultimately, they are led to Anna's aunt, Beatrice Coldwell, who is throwing a party that night. | |||

| Impersonating guests and aided by Beatrice's butler, Antoine, they find a poem about The Three Soldiers and the tiny attic room where Anna once stayed. There, they find more of her diary and learn about the entity that stalks her, as well as a lead to JD Ackerman's. Finally confronting Beatrice, they are told that Anna seemed to go mad that summer she stayed with Beatrice, years ago, and that Beatrice had been forced to send Anna to a sanitarium where she remains to this day as a ward of the state. | |||

| The sky is pitch black with a blood-red moon; people begin acting oddly. They visit the Arkham Historical Society and then JD Ackerman, who tells them the Three Soldiers story: Neitsh made arcane deals. He also connects Edward to the Cult of the Black Goat. After, they visit the sanitarium and find Anna, who does not recognize them as human at first and flees. Jarrett talks her down from the edge of the roof. Anna says the rest of her diary is with her brother, who was given away to an orphanage when she left home. | |||

| They reunite Anna with Antoine at Frank's apartment and go to the orphanage. A young boy vanished when Anna's brother was there; they discover that Erik Stanczyk murdered him. After finding a photo, they realize Erik Stanczyk and Edward Mason are the same person. Edward was adopted by a man named Arthur Stanley. They return to the apartment and began to grow oddly tired: before they pass out, Henry recalls a newspaper article stating the magician was stabbed to death, and Jarrett realizes Antoine's handwriting matches Edward's adoption papers. Antoine reveals he is the cult leader and they are sent to the Dreamlands. | |||

| In the Dreamlands, Frank, Henry and Jarrett awake in a strange fleshy room. As they escape it, they find themselves before one large locked door and three smaller doors. Each of the smaller door leads them to a piece of Anna that she lost in a nightmare, and when these pieces are fed to the large door, they are confronted with the spirit of Roland, who tells them that they must confront their demons in order to fully escape the Dreamlands. | |||

| After confronting their demons, the three men make plans to destroy Shub-Niggurath. Roland sends them back to Earth; they wake up to the summoning ritual. Henry is possessed by Shub-Niggurath due to the coin he holds. Frank redirects the portal and Jarett tries to kill Antoine. Jarrett is fatally stabbed and Henry goes through the portal, sending him back in time. Edward disguises Henry as the magician and takes him to the execution point in the woods. The shotgun blast from past-Henry kills Shub-Niggurath and his future self. The timeline is changed entirely as a result. | |||
